Beginning in 2014, Auburn High School initiated the AHS Veterans Project, an initiative designed to preserve the legacy of veterans in East Alabama and West Georgia through student-led oral history interviews. Since the began this project, the students have conducted over 200 veteran interviews that have been submitted to the Library of Congress Veterans History Project. In addition, we have begun the collection of photographs of fallen heroes from these two states to contribute to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund Wall of Faces project.

As we commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War, AHS is seeking to demonstrate its appreciation for our Vietnam veterans, who often did not receive such when they returned, through the recording of their story. AHS is hosting oral history interviews on Tuesday, March 28th at the National Infantry Museum in Columbus, Georgia with two different sessions being offered (9:45 AM EST and 1 PM EST). AHS believes that by hosting the interviews at the museum veterans and their families can make an enjoyable trip to the museum, which was recently voted the #1 best free museum in the United States.

Prior to leading the interviews, students will complete a one-month study of the war and train with professionals in the leading of oral history methodology. Interview copies are given to the participating veteran for them and their family as well as to the Library of Congress Veterans History Project. The interviews are audio-recorded and led by 2-3 students; they normally last between one hour to ninety minutes.

The success of AHS's past efforts has largely been due to the support of veteran communities in sharing this opportunity with those that they know.  We would be honored to host those Vietnam veterans who are interested as well as their families and help preserve their story for future generations. For those wishing to participate or have questions, they can contact W. Blake Busbin of AHS via email at wbbusbin@auburnschools.org or by calling Auburn High School at (334) 887-4970.

Thank you for your support of this project and your service to the Infantry community!
