About USARA

Since 1973, the U.S. Army Ranger Association, Inc. (USARA) has been a social membership organization dedicated to supporting active duty and veteran U.S. Army Rangers.  It is currently organized as a Georgia nonprofit and recognized by the IRS as a Tax-Exempt Organization under Section 501 (c)(3). Its purpose is to strengthen relationships among all U.S. Army Rangers – past, present, and future; foster camaraderie among those who have earned the title U.S. Army Ranger; and provide an extended community for all US Army Rangers and their families.

Membership

USARA accepts applications for membership from individuals who have been awarded the Ranger Tab or who have served in a combat arms capacity in a U. S. Army Ranger unit for at least one year, or, if less, were awarded the CIB, CAB, or CMB while serving in that unit.  USARA also provides affiliate and associate memberships to individuals who support the Ranger community.

Activities

An important component of USARA’s mission is to support Ranger programs.  It does so by sponsoring its own activities, and providing funding and support for activities of other entities and individuals that support the Ranger community.  These activities include

  • Annual Ranger Muster / Ranger Rendezvous
  • Fundraising events
  • Monthly breakfasts
  • Regional planned events

USARA Crest

Symbolism of the USARA Crest

  • Spontoon used by officers as a badge of office.
  • Knife, hatchet and musket used by enlisted ranks.
  • Blue and Grey represent Ranger forces during the War of the Rebellion.
  • Red and White represent HQs of our combat history.
  • “Rangers Lead The Way!” is the motto adopted by US Army Rangers when BG COTA meet with LTC Max Schneider, commander of the 5th Ranger Battalion, Cota asked “What outfit is this?” Someone yelled, “5th Rangers!” To inspire Schneider’s men to leave the cover of the seawall and advance through a breach, Cota replied, “Well, God damn it, if you are Rangers, then get up there and lead the way!” “Rangers Lead The Way” became the motto for all U.S. Army Rangers.
